Nosy has been busy [11 Nov 2009|09:51pm]

[ mood | content ]

Sorry I haven't been updating! Sorry to whom, I'm not exactly sure, but I'm sorry anyway for being a busy bee. Actually, I haven't been too busy, just that I don't manage my time well so I find myself rushing for many things at the last minute! Anyway, since exams are just around the corner, which means that the school term is ending again...I shall take some time off to reflect upon my semester...

(At this point I wanted to do a lj cut but I really can't be bothered to fiddle with the html).

Hmm where should I start? This semester has certainly been more fulfilling than the last. I met tonnes of new people...mostly acquaintances but also some really good friends :o) I can definitely see some wonderful friendships coming up! School was hectic as usual, but somehow I had the chance to go through the semester at my own pace and pick up loads of exciting new knowledge as I go along. I think as I started my second year in university, I had the chance to take higher level modules that were not only tougher (boo) but also made me think ALOT. It probed my mind, challenged my believes, and at some point, even emotional! It's amazing how...a module can invoke so much thoughts in a boring person like me. Of course, thoughts and emotions kept to myself won't get me anywhere, so this semester I had the greatest blessing ever of being a part of TWO groups of friends who shared the same faith as me and supported me all along the way.

I will elaborate more and have a nice "Year-end round up" post to thank them, but for now, they are the people who have been there for me, praying for me and making me thankful that my weekdays seem much more trivial compared to what they go through. I think being closer to God this half of the year has helped me grow tremendously. I am STILL working on that nasty-ass (I don't know how else to describe it) temper of mine, and I'm not like super generous or compassionate now or something, but I'm definitely trying to enjoy school more, and thanking God for everything that comes my way, good or bad.

I am quite glad that the semester has passed without any major glitches (so far) and I will be looking forward to the end of exams and the coming of CHRISTMASSSS!!!

floor plan software? [09 Nov 2009|10:46pm]

Could anyone recommend some floor planning software?
I know the best way is cutting up graph paper to represent your items, but I'm disabled and that's way harder for me than using a bit of software.

I did google, but there's a lot of share ware and I try to avoid that kind of stuff in case it's phoney and has viruses. Unless someone can recommend something so I know it's good and clean.
I don't mind paying for something.

I need to design my whole house and I want to do a floor plan for what to grow in the garden too.

Down goes the Wall [10 Nov 2009|03:06am]

fizzynoodles
So about this time of writing, 20 years ago, I remember being 3 years old. Snoring. Because hey, it's my bedtime. But later that day, I vaguely remember sitting on my grandmother's lap, watching the news, watching some people, a LOT of people, gathering around this wall covered with graffiti. They seemed pretty happy.

I was watching history as it happened, and all I cared about right then and there was getting another bar of chocolate.

Because of that moment, my generation spent the 90s as quite possibly the most carefree child generations probably ever. No threat of wars, no recessions apart from a time in 1997, just simply the best time to be an adolescent. All stemming from the moment the Wall fell. Lovely stuff.

Still can't believe David Hasselhoff performed there that night though.

happy twenty first ! im awful at expressing myself explicitly... so im gonna paste this whole chunk down cos i love it too much and I have to share it with you

The History of Love by Nicole Krauss
"The Age of String"

So many words get lost. They leave the mouth and lose their courage, wandering aimlessly until they are swept into the gutter like dead leaves. On rainy days you can hear their chorus rushing past: IwasabeautifulgirlPleasedon'tgoItoobelievemybodyismadeofglass-I'veneverlovedanyoneIthinkofmyselfasfunnyForgiveme . . .

There was a time when it wasn't uncommon to use a piece of string to guide words that otherwise might falter on the way to their destinations. Shy people carried a little bundle of string in their pockets, but people considered loudmouths had no less need for it, since those used to being overheard by everyone were often at a loss for how to make themselves heard by someone. The physical distance between two people using a string was often small; sometimes the smaller the distance, the greater the need for the string.

The practice of attaching cups to the ends of the string came much later. Some say it is related to the irrepressible urge to press shells to our ears, to hear the still-surviving echo of the world's first expression. Others say it was started by a man who held the end of a string that was unraveled across the ocean by a girl who left for America.

When the world grew bigger, and there wasn't enough string to keep the things people wanted to say from disappearing into the vastness, the telephone was invented.

Sometimes no length of string is long enough to say the thing that needs to be said. In such cases all the string can do, in whatever its form, is conduct a person's silence.

help me revamp my work area? [09 Nov 2009|02:17pm]

I comment here a fair amount but haven't made a post in ages..scary, no?

My bedroom currently remains very similar to how it was when I last posted 1-2 years ago, but I'm having some real problems with my workspace and would love some ideas on how to make it more functional as well as inspirational and motivational.

Right now I am an 18-year-old Photography/Media 6th form student living at home and a hopefully-soon-to-be fashion student; whilst I tend to do most of my work at school because of their fabulous printers, I occasionally use my laptop for last-minute research, so it needs to be practical for a busy yet lazy student. I also write this fashion blog and tend to scribble ideas down on bits of paper and shove them into drawers and forget about them. Additionally I sell on Ebay and so have parcel tape, envelopes and sharpie pens scattered around the place which I need to keep together, though I keep my envelopes in our rather packed, even messier junk room so it's not quite as full. Therefore my area also needs to have great organisation and motivate me to write regularly and keep everything tidy, organised and out of the way. On top of all of that, I use it for my regular internet stuff such as MSN and Facebook, plus the occasional DVD and CD. That is a lot of computer time in one day!

So how does one transform a small half-bedroom space into a super-motivation work station without spending too much money?

pixx here )

I'd be so grateful for any ideas on how to revamp the space.

Feng Shui [08 Nov 2009|08:21pm]

ourbedrooms

[distimial]
Hello there, i believe it's my first time here.

So i bought some new furniture to my bedroom and i still dont know how to place it.

I thought it would be really nice to follow some feng shui ideas.
Any tips? Or any good site to take a peak?

I'm a student with a very stressed lifestyle (unfortunately).
My room is composed by a bed, some bookshelves, two nightstands, one desk, my dogs bed, a closet, dogs bed and a dresser.
There is also a huge window that occupies almost one of the walls.
I dont know if that helps.

Thank you for your time and excuse my bad english. Have a nice week! :) *

obamanation abomination [09 Nov 2009|03:34am]

bedahbelacan
....
More serious perhaps was Mr Obama's strange disconnectedness over the Fort Hood massacre of 13 soldiers by an Army major and devout Muslim who opposed the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, had praised suicide bombing and shouted "Allahu Akbar" as he opened fire.

Maybe Mr Obama had been reading the American press, much of which somehow contrived to present the atrocity as a result of combat stress due to soldiers going on repeated war deployments (though Major Nadal Hasan had not been on any) and therefore, no doubt, Mr Bush's fault.

When the television networks cut to the President, viewers listened to him spend more than two surreal minutes talking to a gathering of Native Americans about their "extraordinary" and "extremely productive" conference, pausing to give a cheery "shout out" to a man named Dr Joe Medicine Crow. Only then did he briefly and mechanically address what had happened in Texas.

On Friday, when most of the basic facts were available, Mr Obama tried again. It was scarcely any better. He began by offering "an update on the tragedy that took place" - as if it was an earthquake and not a terrorist attack from an enemy within - and ended with a promise for more "updates in the coming days and weeks".

Completely missing was the eloquence that Mr Obama employs when talking about himself. Absent too was any sense that the President empathised with the families and comrades of those murdered.

It was a reminder that for the past 16 years Americans have had two Presidents who would often extemporise and express emotion. President Bill Clinton could certainly "feel your pain" while Mr Bush sometimes struggled to hold back tears. (WHOT?!?!) Mr Obama is more like President George Bush Snr, who famously communicated his concern for people by blurting out: "Message - I care."

The White House argues that Mr Obama was not on the ballot last week and there is therefore no need to fret. The problem with this complacency is that voters were angry about the state of the economy, which Mr Obama can't keep blaming on his predecessor. With unemployment now above 10 per cent, Mr Obama needs to show Americans that he can relate to what they're going through, and take responsibility.

It could do him good to show he has a bit of fire in his belly. Perhaps he might make a decision or two based on gut instinct and deep conviction. In other words, maybe he should try being a bit more like Mr Bush.

Best escargot stuffed mushrooms everrrr.

Weekend was crazily fantastic.
Started off with friday night at House for the beauty emporium bash (stag party) with R, Ning and Charm, had bestest tapas at HV, went to Mustafa spontaneously at 1am. Saturday was Keagan's 2nd and the night flea at the Art Museum. Today we woke up early, met Nicky, Mel and Van and headed to the Science Centre for Bodyworlds which was really enlightening and totally worth the entrance fee. Wanted to head down for the Zouk flea after but was too hammered. Getting the flu and headache. Cannot fall sick.. will not fall sick!!
